Sticky dripping ice cream cones, filled high with fresh flavors made right on the farm. “I might not have known why, but I knew it was good” says Susan while reminiscing about her early food memories. Not good like alright good, but layers of goodness. I discovered at an early age that you could taste the care and love someone puts into food. Coming from a family that appreciated great food, she decided to head off to culinary school. Where after completing the intensive four year Bachelors Degree program decided to stay on to earn her Masters Degree, graduating at an early age and with honors.

“I just knew that now was the right time.”

Prior to Co-Founding Chokola’j LLC, Susan worked with a Fortune 500 company where in addition to her Management duties organized charitable events with major organizations like the Thorau Institute, and Project Food. “The great thing about starting a business is that you can build your values into the fabric of the organization” says Susan. This day and age consumers have the ultimate power. By purchasing from companies that share their values they are funding that business to continue on. We apply this principle to our daily purchasing needs putting us in a situation where just by being in business we are helping the causes we believe in like supporting local artisans and craftspeople, minimizing our impact on the environment, and supporting a food culture that’s vibrant and sustainable.
